5 Tips for Setting up an Organized Laundry Room

The words “laundry” and “fun” are almost never said together in the same sentence, and that isn’t likely to change anytime soon. However, with a laundry room set up the right way, the task can hold a lot more appeal.

1. Try pre-sorting your clothes by using hampers that are designated for whites, darks, and colours. This can be a big time saver.

2. Make space for drip-drying clothes. There are a number of ways to do this, but it depends on how much room is available in your laundry space. A retractable clothesline can be set up, or an inexpensive collapsible drying rack can be pulled out from storage and used when needed. A clothes rod could also be set up to hang clothes to dry.

3. If there isn’t room for a folding table and ironing board, utilize your wall space and hanging a fold down shelf from the wall, and attach an ironing board hanger so the board is secure and out of the way until you need it.

4. Arrange your products and detergents in order of how often you use them. Products you use regularly should be placed in front on the shelf or in a place that is easy to reach, and incidentals or extras that you don’t use often can be placed towards the back or on a higher shelf.

5. Store smaller items in clear bins and boxes. This will keep loose items from cluttering up your cupboards and shelves, and make it easy for you to see what is in each one. Sort and store similar products together, for example supplies you use for stain removal,  sewing and mending, and rags and sponges, and store in order of what is used the most often.
